Please find attached and following an announcement for a major European
conference on access to cultural heritage.  Details of the UK part of the
ACCU project are available at

SESSION 1: Current situation and framing the problems (Where are we now?)
This session provides a general view of actual problems and discussions, in
an international / European context. The topic is approached from different
aspects of accessibility;

9:00-9:30   Adrian Cave (Architect and Access Consultant, UK): A paper
            exploring the current understanding of barriers, issues and
            solutions in museums and other heritage organizations in
            "listed" buildings
9:30-10:00  Diana Walters (Programme co-ordinator of the International
            Museum Studies, Göteborg University, Sweden): A paper exploring
            the current barriers, and methods to remove or minimise them,
            to sensory, intellectual, and socio-cultural accessibility to
            cultural heritage
10:00-10:30 Anna Brill (Chairman, Association for Blind and Partially
            Sighted People Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany): Accessibility
            to cultural heritage, a view of the actual problems and current
            discussions in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

            10:45-11:15 COFFEE BREAK

11:15-11:45 Ulla Salmela (Co-ordinator, National Board of Antiquities,
            Finland): "Access to Cultural Heritage (ACCU), European
            cooperation on accessibility"
11:45-12:00 Geir Linnerud (ACCU Norway): Launch of the ACCU-website

            12:00-13:00 LUNCH BREAK

SESSION 2: Approaches and Solutions (Best practice). Presentations from
experts in the field. This session presents actual approaches in an
international/ European scale and is a forum for an international
discussion.

13:00-13:30 Nina Baptiste (Access Development Manager, Yorkshire Museums,
            Libraries and Archives Council YMLAC, UK): A regional (and
            national) approach to promoting good practice
13:45-14:15 Russell Walters (Head of Operations, English Heritage, UK): An
            access strategy for a national heritage organisation
14:30-15:00 Hoelle Corvest (Head of Visitor Services, Museum of Science and
            Industry Complex, Paris / La Cité des Sciences et de
            L'industrie, France): Promoting good practice on accessibility
            in the Museum of Science and Industry Complex, Paris
