I think that there is a high turn-over in development. It's sort of the
sales position of the non-profit world. It's especially tough for
cultural organizations. I have development friend that left cultural
organizations after years of struggle, and experienced almost silly
levels of success with children's issues organizations. I admire anyone
that chooses the development path.

Subject: Re: Misguided applicants-a new angle

Hi again-
One thing I've been seeing in my job search of the various websites (I'm
the
one who's been looking on AAM, NEMA, idealist, craiglist, etc since
November)
as well as in the e-mail leads generated by various list members is
there are
many jobs in museums for development/fundraising positions. As someone
who's a
bit unfamiliar with this part of the museum world, I'd like to know how
one
gets involved/experienced in such a profession? Is there a high demand
but low
number of qualified individuals for such positions? That would seem
strange
given the discussion lately of how very difficult it is to get an entry
level
position in a museum with an MA & a few years experience.
Just curious-
Stephanie
