Our museum is small with annual visitation under 10k. We have a donation
box behind the reception desk. It's very accessible after visitors pass the
desk. This keeps people from putting their donations in the box. We get
about $40/month in donations from this box. I found that the donations went
up when we placed "seed" money in the box. I always leave one $5 and one
$10 bill in the box. It's very gratifying to see unsolicited donations from
children as they leave the museum!!

As a partner of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project, we are
coordinating an oral history project with World War II veterans and
civilians in northwest Georgia. It is vital that we preserve these stories.
Please contact the Museum to schedule interviews. This project is supported
in part by a grant from the Georgia Humanities Council.

Our timely new exhibit "Before the Hanging Chad: Early Voter Registration"
explores the changes in voting restrictions since the birth of our Nation
and ending with the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Highlights include the
struggles of non-property owners, women, and African-Americans to gain
voting rights. Runs through November 27, 2004.

Kathy: What is the percentage of people who donate? How many walk past
the donation box? Thanks!

We are small enough that we have a guest book that we ask visitors to
sign. Our donation box is located next to the guest book. Our sign
reads "Admission to the American Movie Palace Museum is FREE courtesy of
our members throughout the world. Donations are welcome to help keep
this part of American popular culture available to the public.
Suggested donation is $2.00 per person. Thank you!"t the quotes).
