As a professional objects and sculpture conservator I have been asked 
constantly by the public for advice on what they can do to care for their personal 
collections. 

I would highly recommend "Caring for Your Collections" Published by Abrams, 
it was a publications of Heritage Preservation, I believe. This is an excellent 
publication for the average person and collector.

The American Institute for Conservation also offer free brochures on the care 
of various media that can be found at the AIC web site:
