Good Afternoon Simon,
Yep! We sure do!
Admission prices recover significantly less than one-half of our
expenses. So, where do the other revenue funds come from? There quite
a few revenue streams, among them are: memberships, sponsorships,
contributions, annual appeals, retail operations, grants, rentals,
etc.....and lest we forget....donation boxes. We have several
throughout our various facilities. The flagship facility, The Pink
Palace Museum has two: one near the planetarium (this large box has one
"clear" Plexiglas side, collecting 1 million pennies to demonstrate the
meaning of a million, which is a number knocked around a lot in
astronomy), and the other (also clear, but a lot smaller than the first
box) on the 2nd floor exhibition gallery's mezzanine. We also have two
at the Lichterman Nature Center (LNC). One of these boxes is located in
the LNC's Backyard Wildlife Center, with a label requesting money to
help offset the cost of feeding the animals.
Best Wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving,
Wesley

Does anyone have a donation box that is charging admission? If so, what
kind of response do you get?

Thanks,
Simon

Kathy: What is the percentage of people who donate? How many walk past
the donation box? Thanks!

We are small enough that we have a guest book that we ask visitors to
sign. Our donation box is located next to the guest book. Our sign
reads "Admission to the American Movie Palace Museum is FREE courtesy of
our members throughout the world. Donations are welcome to help keep
this part of American popular culture available to the public.
Suggested donation is $2.00 per person. Thank you!"t the quotes).
