We provide research services on a couple of different levels. If people
contact us with a simple information request, we answer those free of
charge. Such requestors often are too far away to come do their research
on site. Our general rule of thumb is that if we can answer their
request within about 15 minutes of research time, we don't charge them.
If it's going to take us more than a half hour to look into their
request, we charge $35 per hour for non-members, and $25 per hour for
members, with a maximum of two hours for any one request. For all
requests, I usually throw in the first 5 or so photocopies for free (or
however many I can mail to them with 37 cents of postage), then charge
25 cents per photocopy after that. Coming onsite to do research is free
to anyone, but appointments are required. In fact, if someone is coming
to the museum for the sole purpose of doing research, they are not even
charged admission. But I do charge onsite researchers 25 cents per
photocopy. Speaking of photocopies, we also have an extra hourly labor
charge for any copy orders that exceed 50 pages.
Hope that helps,
Cristin
