Paid  Internship  in  Central  Illinois

Application Deadline:  March 3, 2005

Terms of position:  With a start date in May the internship will last six
months with a possible extension.  Alternate weekend afternoon work is
required from June-October with comp time.

Location:  Homestead Prairie Farm, a circa 1860 living history house
museum, is 2 miles from  Decatur, Illinois.  Located on the grounds of the
Rock Springs Nature Center and administered by the Macon County
Conservation District the site is at the edge of 1350 acres of riverine
forest and prairie next to the visitor center and administrative offices.

Salary/Stipend/Housing:  $7.25/hour for 40 hours per week plus a $225
monthly housing stipend.  The site is close to Decatur which has several
housing options.  No on-site housing.

Duties :
Interpretation---The intern will assist in the third person interpretation
of Homestead Prairie Farm. The site’s Trobaugh-Good House was listed on the
National Register in 1996. The intern will work with staff/volunteers to
provide weekend afternoon tours, weekend history programs for the public,
and various programs for schools and other groups by request either on-site
or in the classroom. The site has no farm animals so the intern will have
no animal care duties.

Youth Programs---The intern and another staff member will co-manage the
Pioneer Adventure Summer Day Camp.  The history day camp meets one morning
a week for 6 weeks and usually has a class of 10 campers. The intern will
also co-manage a small group of youth volunteers.

Collections/Exhibits:  The intern will assist in maintaining current
exhibits and the various artifact collections.  The intern will also assist
with check-in/check-out procedures of reproduction period clothing worn by
staff and volunteers for tours and programs.  Other special projects are
pending budget and grant approval.

Research/Educational-----The intern will assist with the research and
presentation of history programs, research and write newsletter articles or
interpreter training materials and help volunteers as needed with their
programs and projects.

Administrative-----The intern will assist other staff with volunteer
management,  some housekeeping/maintenance duties, the purchase of  program
supplies and artifacts, set-up for various special events, some publicity
duties, and other administrative projects as needed.
