Melinda,

Light levels are dependent upon the materials that the collection are 
composed of. A red silk dress, for example, will require much lower light exposure 
than a cast iron kettle. It is also dependent upon the mode of storage for the 
collections. If objects are in acid-free boxes or in drawers than the room 
lighting will not be much of a concern.

As a general rule collections storage lighting levels are not as stringent as 
for items on exhibit as long as the collections are enclosed.
