Ceramics stolen from V&A museum
About £60,000 worth of objects have been stolen from the Victoria and Albert
Museum's ceramics collection.
A cabinet containing the nine antiques, which date from the 15th to the 19th
Centuries, was smashed at the central London museum on Monday.
The objects stolen consisted of three small cups, two miniature animal
figures, a bowl, two small ornamental plaques and a small ritual cylinder.
A security review has been launched and Scotland Yard is investigating.
'Well organised theft'
The cylinder, which is valued at £20,000 and dates back to 1,000 BC, is the
most highly prized object of all those stolen.
All the items are made of jade and are a dark green-brown colour.
V&A's director Mark Jones said: "This appears to have been a well organised
theft and the intention may be to sell these objects quickly.
"We appeal to anyone who suspects that they are being offered these stolen
objects to report this to the police immediately."
The thieves used instruments to smash the cabinet in the afternoon, shortly
before the start of the private view for the Black and British Style
exhibition.

Roban en un museo de Londres nueve piezas que valen más de 100.000 dólares
LONDRES, Oct 5 (AFP) - Nueve piezas artísticas, una de las cuales es
anterior a nuestra era, fueron robadas el lunes por la tarde en una galería
del museo de artes decorativas Victoria and Albert de Londres, indicó este
martes el museo.
El valor total de las piezas robadas se estima en unas 60.000 libras
esterlinas (unos 106.000 dólares), según el museo.
Ocho objetos son de jade: tres pequeñas tazas, un bol, dos pequeños animales
y dos placas, que datan de entre el siglo XV y el siglo XIX, indicó el
museo, añadiendo que el noveno objeto, un rollo ritual, sería de unos mil
años antes de Cristo.
"Parece que fue un robo muy bien organizado y la intención de los ladrones
podría ser revender esos objetos rápidamente. Pedimos a quien le sean
propuestos que entre inmediatamente en contacto con la policía", declara en
un comunicado el director del Victoria and Albert, Mark Jones.
Los ladrones forzaron el mueble en que se encontraban los objetos, expuestos
en la galería de las cerámicas. Actualmente se está llevando a cabo una
investigación sobre los dispositivos de seguridad del museo.
