 CITY OF GASTONIA, N.C.



The City of Gastonia, an All America City and first in NC to be named a
Millennium Community serving 68,255 residents over a 48.6 square mile area
located in the Southern Piedmont region of North Carolina 20 miles west of
Charlotte, has begun a search for a Director for its Schiele Museum, which
is accredited by the American Association of Museums and is an Affiliate of
the Smithsonian Institution.  The City is seeking a progressive visionary,
who is team-orientated and possesses strong administrative, interpersonal,
and management skills to direct the activities of its nationally recognized
museum including long range planning, fiscal control, grant application
proposals, public relations and inventory of museum artifacts and other
resources.  In addition this person will be responsible for managing a staff
of 33 FTE with a budget of $2.5 million, while directing all aspects of the
organization.  The Candidate must be a person of high character and
integrity and must be able to forge strong community alliances and support
while serving as a Department Head of the City and working closely with a
private Museum Board. Any combination of education and experience equivalent
to graduation from an accredited college or university with BS/BA in natural
history, public administration or related area and extensive experience in
museum management, including fund raising is required. Experience as
Director, Assistant Director or equivalent in a medium to large natural
science museum highly preferred. Advanced degree a plus. The retiring
director's salary was $91,026 within a salary range of $59,982 to $111,592.
Salary of the individual selected will be commensurate with experience.
