The lawsuit against the looter of museums Stéphane Breitwieser, pursued for
the flight(theft) of 23 works of art in France, in Denmark and in Austria,
opened on Thursday morning, January 6th in front of the court dealing with
criminal matters of Strasbourg.
The fascinated, 33-year-old collector, would have stolen approximately 70
works in France, but he will be judged on Thursday and Friday in Strasbourg
only for 20 of them (statues, font, hourglass, watches-fob) stolen between
1999 and 2001, the other flights(thefts) being prescribed, as well as for
two flights(thefts) in Denmark in 1999 and one in Austria in 2001.
During his(her,its) lawsuit in Switzerland(Swiss) in February, 2003, at the
conclusion of which he had been four-year-old condemned person of prison for
69 flights(thefts), Stéphane Breitwieser had recognized the flights(thefts)
of 239 works of art - among which of the details(rooms) of an inestimable
value in seven European countries between 1995 and 2001.

Canal of the Rhone

The court of Strasbourg will also judge the mother of the young man to have
destroyed(annulled) more than 200 works of art stolen by his(her) son and
for receiving by custom.

After the arrest of his(her) son in Switzerland(Swiss) in November, 2001,
Mireille Stengel, 53 years, had indeed decided to get rid of all the
details(rooms) which he stored in the house where they lived both to
Eschentzwiller ( height-Rhine).
More than hundred of objects were so found in the canal of the Rhone in the
Rhine to Ertein ( bottom(stocking) - Rhine) and Mireille Stengel also
indicated having destroyed(annulled) paintings(clothes) in the hammer and in
the knife.
Paintings(Clothes) of Watteau, Butcher or to Last, that Stéphane Breitwieser
recognized to have flown, were never found.
The ancient(former) partner of Stéphane Breitwieser, Anne-Catherine
Kleinklaus, age 33, also appears for receiving by custom.

L e procès du pilleur de musées Stéphane Breitwieser, poursuivi pour le vol
de 23 oeuvres d'art en France, au Danemark et en Autriche, s'est ouvert
jeudi matin 6 janvier devant le tribunal correctionnel de Strasbourg.
Le collectionneur passionné, âgé de 33 ans, aurait dérobé environ 70 oeuvres
en France, mais il ne sera jugé jeudi et vendredi à Strasbourg que pour 20
d'entre elles (statues, bénitier, sablier, montres-gousset...) volées entre
1999 et 2001, les autres vols étant prescrits, ainsi que pour deux vols au
Danemark en 1999 et un en Autriche en 2001.
Lors de son procès en Suisse en février 2003, à l'issue duquel il avait été
condamné à quatre ans de prison pour 69 vols, Stéphane Breitwieser avait
reconnu les vols de 239 oeuvres d'art -dont des pièces d'une valeur
inestimable- dans sept pays européens entre 1995 et 2001.

Canal du Rhône

Le tribunal de Strasbourg jugera également la mère du jeune homme pour avoir
détruit plus de 200 oeuvres d'art volées par son fils et pour recel par
habitude.

Après l'arrestation de son fils en Suisse en novembre 2001, Mireille
Stengel, 53 ans, avait en effet décidé de se débarrasser de toutes les
pièces qu'il stockait dans la maison où ils vivaient tous les deux à
Eschentzwiller (Haut-Rhin).
Plus d'une centaine d'objets ont ainsi été retrouvés dans le canal du Rhône
au Rhin à Ertein (Bas-Rhin) et Mireille Stengel a également indiqué avoir
détruit des toiles au marteau et au couteau.
Des toiles de Watteau, Boucher ou Durer, que Stéphane Breitwieser a reconnu
avoir volées, n'ont jamais été retrouvées.
L'ancienne compagne de Stéphane Breitwieser, Anne-Catherine Kleinklaus, 33
ans, comparaît également pour recel par habitude.
