The Cultural Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria,
Canada is pleased to offer the following six-day immersion course for
professionals involved with historic sites, heritage planning,
conservation, and related sectors.

PLANNING FOR CULTURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: HERITAGE CONSERVATION
PLANNING
HA 488R (1.5 units); on-campus offering

Strengthen your understanding of conservation planning and
decision-making principles and processes, and develop your capacity to:
*integrate conservation planning in the management of heritage resources

*involve appropriate stakeholders and professional expertise in the
planning process 
*identify key components of a conservation plan 
*acquire and integrate research and technical information 
*identify and facilitate key decisions 
*plan for project implementation and evaluation 

This course is based on the concept that long-term heritage conservation
in a community is best achieved through an integrated approach that
includes gaining the collaboration of the broad set of stakeholders that
affects the process.

The Cultural Resource Management Program is an Architectural Institute
of British Columbia registered provider offering an AIBC-accredited
activity for continuing education learning units. This course is
assigned 36 AIBC core learning credits.

Instructor: Gerry McGeough, MAIBC. After graduating with a bachelor of
architecture from McGill University in 1986, Gerry McGeough practised
architecture in Montreal specializing in the rehabilitation and adaptive
re-use of heritage buildings and infill development in historic
contexts. Gerry has been Senior Heritage Planner with the Heritage
Conservation Program at the City of Vancouver for the past 12 years. The
latest civic initiative Gerry is helping to lead is a $70-million
municipal incentive program for the preservation of heritage buildings
in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver.

This course is open to professionals involved in heritage conservation
and planning. Enrolment options allow you to choose to take courses
either to enhance professional development or to build academic credit.
