Absolutely not! No museum employee should be allowed to receive tips. In
museums I directed we always had an "employee fund," this paid for parties,
Christmas gifts, and other "morale and comfort" boosters. Employees were
encouraged to make suggestions on how to spend the money, and they decided
how the funds were spent. I would encourage visitors who want to tip an
employee to: 1) write a note of appreciation which can go into the employees
folder (could be really nice at performance review time), 2) make the
contribution to the "employee fund."
Cheers,
-Nicholas

Subject: tips given to security guards and other staff
Hi!
What do ya'll tell your staff (especially security guards) about tips? Have
they been offered to them by visitors? Are they allowed to accept them?
What if the visitor INSISTS?
Thanks for your help.
