   There are ways of getting around this problem for at least a short
period of time.  First, the publisher of your text should be able to
supply you with a skeleton set of slides; contact your local
publisher's representative.  Second, borrow an SLR camera and purchase
a set of "additional lenses."  These will allow you to take pictures
from books.  Then borrow the necessary books from a library, find a
sunny room, appropriate film of about 200 ASA and start shooting.
Nobody buys all of the slides they need.  Third, require the students
to bring the text to class and, at the appropriate moment during the
class, say "Look at the photo on page X" and talk about the object.
   Not the best way to run an art history class, but most of us make these
accomodations to some extent.
