POSITION AVAILABLE:     Visitor Programs Coordinator

Classification:   Part-time/Non-Exempt

Department:        Special Events
General Summary: 
Plan, coordinate, and develop existing and new events, programs, and activities for public audiences, with an emphasis on family programming, to attract a new, larger and more diverse audience and visitor base.  
 
Job Qualifications: 
Previous Training and Experience 
Bachelor's degree in hospitality and tourism management, recreation, marketing, elementary education, or related field required.  Two years' experience in museum programming, public programming, or event planning preferred.  Other highly desirable skills include: knowledge of horticulture or natural history; museum interpretation; public relations and customer satisfaction skills; and good written and oral communication skills.  Must be able to manage a schedule of regular programs, all at various stages or planning, execution, and evaluation.  Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) is necessary, including utilization of e-mail programs and the Internet.

Physical/Mental Requirements
An outgoing people-personality energized by public contact and interaction is essential.
Creative, dynamic, energetic, and friendly individual who finds satisfaction working with family audiences and volunteers; must be a self-starter with the ability to motivate others, manage events, and accept responsibility.  Must possess excellent skills in planning, organization, and supervision.  Must be flexible and available to work weekends and some evenings, according to events schedule.  Average schedule is 25 hours per week, with some additional hours required during peak seasons and programs.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a combined indoor (70%) and outdoor (30%) setting.
Requires some physical activity: lifting and carrying (up to 25 lbs.); walking over all types of terrain; some travel by car and train.
