 At first they were hiding the rarities at one of local motor depots

**  Stolen whale bones returned to museum
Officials from the National Museums of Scotland were left stunned when they
arrived on the beach to find the jaw from the 56ft Fin whale skeleton was
missing

**  Museum bids for Flying Scotsman
The National Railway Museum in York has submitted the offer a day before the
April 2 deadline after a campaign to raise enough money to buy the Flying
Scotsman, the engine famed for the first non-stop run from London to
Edinburgh in 1928

**  Science out of playing in mud
Once a month, except in summer, volunteers help shore up the 800- to
1,000-year-old platform mound by repairing spots that are being eroded by
the elements

**  Baseball returns to the nation's capital
The natural history museum, more often associated with dinosaurs and ancient
civilizations, sees baseball as anthropology - a reflection of the values of
the country and how they have been applied to a game

**  Exhibit Explores the World of Childhood
The exhibit, titled "kid size: The Material World of Childhood," features
150 children's toys, items of furniture and artefacts that span three
centuries and come from six continents

**  Smithsonian Show Features Funky Furniture
This being Washington, the exhibit opens with the "Bureau of Bureaucracy" -
an 8-foot sculpture in mahogany and other hardwoods that is a cross between
a desk and a chest of drawers with secret compartments

**  Fossil may be earliest arm bone
The 360-370-million-year-old humerus, or upper arm bone, indicates that
limbs may have evolved for use in water and not to get around on land

**  Quilt museum celebrates Amish history
It features a colourful selection of Amish quilts - some more than 100 years
old - collected over the past 30 years by Doug Tompkins, who founded the
Esprit casual clothing company

**  Army blows up old aircraft shell found in county museum
Museum curator Brett Bossard said the shell was discovered in August in the
museum's attic while the building was undergoing renovations

**  Vandalism is no joke - except in Singapore
A page three photo in the Today daily showed a large billboard in front of
the Singapore History Museum vandalised with the words: "Casino is coming
here", in reference to a government proposal to allow a casino in the
city-state
