Hi Rachel,

My alltime favorite of the history museum web sites I have seen so far,
especially if one is interested in research, is the Brazoria County
Historical Museum in Angleton, Tx. That is the home county for Austin's
first 300 colonists. The site is http://www.bchm.org/ They have their 40
page report on Austin's colony still up. Original documents are among the
panes of that sequence. (Unfortuately they no longer have the wonder
presentation on the Civil War and Reconstruction which also included
primary sources which got an award from the Texas Association of Museums
[TAM].) They have gotten awards from AASLH, TAM, and the History Channel.

On their home page you will find a special window for Teachers. I did not
double check that today. They also show their link with what is now
called the Texas History Internet Consortium. They have connections to
the Star of the Republic Museum http://www.starmuseum.org which is at
Washington-on-the-Brazos, the Rosenberg Library in Galveston, and the
Fort Bend Museum in Fort Bend County.

More recently, you can all you ever wanted to know about cutting down
trees from the East Texas Saw Mill Database Project found at
http://www.treetexas.org the home of the Texas Forestry Museum. Texas
Historical Commission has a link to this site on theirs.

And if you are into political Texas you might want to consider the
Presidential museums. I checked that the LBJ Library in Austin has a link
to the research http://www.lbjlib.utexas.edu I would assume President
Geo. H. W. Bush's Library at Texas A&M would also but I did not check
that. I suspect you could also find access to data at the Sixth Floor
Museum in Dallas.

If you want to check more of the history museums in the state and whether
they have resources on line, you may want to go to the list of member
museums at Texas Association of Museum's web site.
