I don't think the poster was asking about collections management software
(which is what a Registrar might use, hence the confusion.) These programs
are intended to catalog your collection, and an excellent overview can be
found at the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN) site. In fact, if
you haven't read the information there, you're missing out. The url is:
http://www.chin.gc.ca/English/Collections_Management/index.html

With the caveat that my museum is probably larger than yours (and isn't
fully operational yet), here's how we intend to handle program
registration, admissions, gift shop sales and inventory and membership.

We will use a combination Ticketing and Retail Point of Sale system that
handles all our ticketing and gift shop operations, as well as scheduling
for programs (we call them events and classes). It also tracks the
admission benefits of memberships. Products we seriously considered for
this function included:
http://www.omniticket.com
http://www.gatewayticketing.com
http://www.quantixpos.com/

Fundraising related special events and membership related functions are
handled by our fundraising software, Raiser's Edge.
