I was the Collections Manager for Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita, Kansas,
until the end of November, 2003. Old Cowtown Museum has a similar
situation -- 27 historic (1870s, 80s & 90s) structures over a 23-acre
site -- all of which require maintenance and upkeep while applying the
Secretary of the Interior's Standards when dealing with historic
structures.

Old Cowtown has considered many of the options you bring up. It may be
worth a call to the museum's Executive Director, Jan McKay, to discuss
some of these issues.
