Dear colleagues,

UMAC (the International Committee for University Museums and
Collections) is pleased to announce that a new version of it's website
is now
available at:
http://icom.museum/umac

Among the features and resources of the new website are:

1. A recently released document on the Importance, Responsability,
Maintenance, Disposal & Closure of University Museums and Collections:
http://icom.museum/umac (left-side menu, Guidelines and Policies).

The document emphasises the importance of university heritage in
contemporary societies and aims at providing guidance to universities
regarding the management and care of their collections.

2. The Database of University Museums and Collections Worldwide has been
redesigned and enlarged. Please have a look at:
http://icom.museum/umac (left-side menu, click on Search).

UMAC's Database is mostly an institutional database, to gather and
facilitate access to information regarding museums and collections in
universities worldwide. The database encompasses small and large
museums, botanical gardens,
arboreta, memorials, house museums, etc., as well as teaching and
research
collections from universities all over the world. Data can be searched
by Country, City, University, Type of Museum/Collection and Discipline.

3. Details of UMAC's own Conference in Seoul and how to submit a paper
can also be found
on UMAC's website.
UMAC is pleased to announce that it will offer two small grants
(equalling
the registration fee) to assist UMAC delegates to attend the Seoul
conference. Details are available from [log in to unmask]
Please note that the deadline for applications is 1 June 2004.

4. Nominations for UMAC Board are open until 25 May. More details and
Nomination Form can be found at UMAC's website (left-side menu,
Elections).

I hope to meet you in Seoul in October! Please excuse any
cross-posting.

Sincerely

Peter
