I have a lot of sympathy with Roger's argument. ICOM's membership is
overwhelmingly professional rather than institutional, so it would be more
logical to recognise professional achievement.
I know that from time to time the USA National Committee (AAM-ICOM) does
recognise outstanding professional service to ICOM and the wider
profession by AAM-ICOM members. (I remember the well-deserved
presentation to Paul Perot when I was a guest at their annual meeting a
few years ago. It would be interesting to know whether other national
committees have similar schemes? perhaps national committee recognition
in this way could serve as a nomination to a world award by ICOM overall?
