As the curator at a small museum I can only agree that we love having people
with brain cells who want to come and play with us- as an AAM accredited
museum we look good on the resume- as public/private partnership the private
side of our world can write a letter of reference that the public side can't
(even for an intern or volunteer)-- over the course of two semesters my last
intern hung an art show, installed a traditional history gallery (including
doing most of the research and label writing) reconfigured document storage,
was in charge of a complete inventory of documents in the collection,
catalogued artifacts, dealt with research requests, helped in the store, and
tons of other things- when she left she had a very good handle on the museum
world (which might be why she is now studying to be a pharmacist)

Small museums far outnumber large museums in the general course of the
world-and we're so much cuter than the big guys ;-)
