I picked up a copy of a book a couple of weeks ago that I'd like to
recommend to all museums using volunteers:

The Volunteer's Survival Manual: The Only Practical Guide to Giving Your
Time and Money. Darcy Campion Devney. The Practical Press, Cambridge MA.
1992. ISBN 0-9630686-9-5

This book is directed to the volunteer, but should be read by museum
employees working with volunteers. There are examples of volunteer
applications, volunteer contracts (someone asked about this recently),
advice for dealing with problematic situations, and the rewards of
volunteering. There is an extensive Resource section, and while the book
may be a little old, its advice and resources are still valuable. This book
would be useful to anyone recruiting, supervising, and trying to retain
volunteers. And the book is applicable to volunteers of all ranks, from
interns to trustees. You can order it from Amazon.

OKAY?
