THE BRONX MUSEUM OF THE ARTS
Assistant to the Executive Director

The Bronx Museum of the Arts (BxMA) is a 20th century and contemporary art
museum, founded in 1971 to serve the culturally diverse populations of the
Bronx and the greater New York metropolitan area. The Museum has a long-
standing commitment to increasing and stimulating audience participation in
the visual arts through its Permanent Collection, special exhibition, and
education programs. It introduces visitors to the dynamic and challenging
voices that shape the contemporary arts field of both today and tomorrow.
The Museum is a member of the Cultural Institutions Group of the City of
New York; has a $1.8 million annual budget; and includes 28 staff members.

Qualifications:

B.A. degree in liberal arts or other related field, with 3 years
commensurate experience
Excellent office, organizational, verbal, and written skills
Discrete, highly flexible, self-motivated team player with ability to
prioritize tasks
Strong computer skills required; knowledge of PC and Mac systems

Responsibilities:

Maintain and update Executive Director’s calendar
Process, expedite and/or route all Executive Director’s incoming and
outgoing correspondence, including the following: drafting responses,
proofreading copy, circulating to other staff as appropriate, filing, etc.
Maintain and update all files, records, contracts, etc., pertinent to
Executive Director’s office
Screen all phone calls for and announce all visitors to Executive Director
Draft correspondence
Undertake assignments relevant to the administrative operations of
Executive Director’s Office; ensure smooth and efficient operation of the
Office and assist other departments as Executive Director may determine
necessary
Serve as secretary to the Board of Trustees, including coordinating all
Board and Committee meetings; recording and preparing meeting minutes and
handling and preparing—with the approval of Executive Director—all
correspondence and communications between the Executive Director’s Office
and the Board of Trustees
Act as back-up for deposits, as needed
Responsible for ordering office supplies; maintaining office equipment;
working with related vendors and possibly negotiating vendor contracts
Assist with planning and implementation of special projects and events,
i.e., opening receptions, cultivation events, community events, benefits,
etc.
Assist other departments with bulk mailings, Xeroxing, collating, compiling
data and attendance reporting, preparing grant requests, as well as other
clerical tasks as needed.

The starting salary is in the mid-twenties with benefits. If interested,
