A valuable reference work for those of you involved in palaeoecology,
palaeohydrology, palaeolimnology, paleoclimatology and similar fields has
just been brought back into print: "Handbook of Holocene Palaeoecology and
Palaeohydrology," edited by Bjorn E. Berglund.

Orginally published in 1986, the book was a breakthrough in standardizing
methods applied in palaeoecology and palaeohydrology. Particular attention
was paid to Holocene environmental changes in the temperate zone, but most
methods can be applied to older Quaternary deposits and to areas outside the
temperate zone.

There have, of course, been methodological developments and a research
expansion during the last 15 years, particularly in palaeolimnological
studies. However, the basic methods for palaeoecological research strategy,
for sampling and documentation of mire and lake deposits, for dating, and
for palaeochemical and palaeobiological analyses, are still the same as when
the book was published.

After being out of print for many years, the book has recently been returned
to print by The Blackburn Press, making it again available to scholars,
libraries, researchers and students who would like to own or replace a copy
of this classic book. For more information on the book, see:

The Blackburn Press is a relatively new publishing company, founded with the
mission of keeping in print and available for purchase at reasonable prices
book titles that larger publishers have lost interest in and have declared
to be "out of print." It specializes in scientific and technical books that
are classics in their field. (See www.blackburnpress.com).
