TECHNOLOGICAL HEADWAY: DIGITAL ACCESS TO ARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS

CHAIRED AND ORGANIZED BY:
Wendy Giddens Teeter (UCLA-Fowler Museum of Cultural History)
[[log in to unmask]]

Abstract: As the world becomes more digital, we have the opportunity to
improve the accessibility of archaeological resources. Many museums
recognize that providing summary information about their collections,
including online exhibits, via the web increases the importance and use of
these non-renewable resources. Intensive and extensive searches for
collections, as well as specific artifacts and records, are increasingly
possible on the web. The digital age has ushered in great possibilities
for increasing preservation and access of systematic archaeological
collections and documentation. This session looks at some of the steps
taken, some issues that have arisen, and the possibilities of tomorrow.
