Much as I hate to disagree with Gene Dillenburg publicly (what we do in
private is nobody's business but our own and our respective partners), Maria
Gimbutas' archaeological work is well regarded, it's just that her
interpretation was not very popular in the 1960's and 1970's (that
mother-goddess matrilineal stuff might have been just a bit much for the
"old boys" -- as distinct from "old Europe").

I studied up on Gimbutas for an exhibit a couple of years ago.  I got the
distinct impression that few archaeologists or anthropologists took her
seriously.

I will refrain from making any comments on Mr. Rumsfeld, as this is not the
proper forum for political discussion.
