I agree with David--FileMaker is quite user-friendly.

I would definitely suggest NOT using Access--computer gurus are comfortable
with it, but I don't think it is a good match for novices.

A third suggestion--check into AskSAM:  http://www.asksam.com/
I haven't used it personally, and it might not be as sophisticated as what
you would need for the researchers, but certainly it is easy!
