Gretchen,

If you don't think teachers are paid well, you may be looking in the wrong
place. Out here in lovely central New Jersey-suburban sprawl-being overrun
by yuppies from New York with Quixotic visions of a nonexistent suburban
reality- teachers seem to be paid quite well. Our school district here in
Howell, Monmouth County starts at $45,000 for wet behind the ears graduates.
Yet, people still kvetch about how little that is.
On that, I can live like a king.

"The ordinary distinctions in society are often vague, and imply no just
pre-eminence: rank and titles are
adventitious things and instead of designating merit or virtue, are
frequently the baubles of imbecility, or
the sparkling decorations of meretricious pageantry"

of Slavery, Twelfth Month (December) 20th, 1803
