Hi,

I'm a Collections Technician at a small to medium sized facility in southern
Alberta. Presently, our museum employees six full-time staff and an
assortment of part-time positions, mine being the position dedicated to the
collections' operation.

Our Museum has been granted an increase of five staff in two years, growing
the Collections compliment from one (mine) to three. The two new positions
will include a dedicated, full-time Curator and a half-time collections
support/ Assistant position.

My questions are: Do you work in a like-institution and operate with two to
four Collections staff? If so, what are the positions (Curator, Cultural
Curatorial Assistant, Registrar, Collections Tech etc.) and how are the
roles differentiated? For example, does everyone catalogue or is it the
responsibility of just one person? Is the third staff person a catch-all or
are they assigned particular tasks (eg. outgoing loans, generating gift
agreements)? I'm not looking for specifics if that's too complicated, but
some sense of what other institutions have done and wether or not it has
been a success. If not, what should have been done differently?

Thanks,

Kevin
