When I taught high school English, a story in our lit book talked about
homemade soap. I tried my hand at making soap, but the skill is kind of
sensitive -- I got "no soap." If you could find someone to make soap, it
would be an interesting exhibit.

We just completed our county history book (Terry County, Texas. Clanton,
AL: Heritage Publishing Consultants, Inc., 2002) and in it are two
stories of making soap. I was particularly interested in the one where
they extracted the lye from ashes by placing the ashes in a wood trough
and dripped water down it. Setting up such a display would require some
carpentry, etc., but I, personally, would love to see such an exhibit.

Another story in our book that was quite graphic was "hog killing day."
I don't think you want an exhibit for that one!
