Hi Nikkie,
The best thing for collections storage areas are a
steady temperature, and stable humidity. Best temps
for general storage area (where you have a multitude
of different kinds of materials/medias) is 68-72* F,
with a relative humidity level of 45-55%. As little
fluctuation as possible is best, although we all know
that is the perfect ideal, and not often obtainable.
If temps/RH have to be changed, they should be changed
very slowly over a period of several days or longer.
The change in temperatures/RH cause stress to objects
by contracting and expanding the materials.
Deterioration of objects can be slowed by maintaining
stable temp/RH levels.
