Two or three years ago, the people at MOMA in NYC went on strike and formed
a union.(the curators and registrars I think) There were numerous articles
in the New York Times regarding this.

In NYC, art handlers or museum technicians do belong to a union, as do the
maintenance staff, and the freight operators.

Museum employees are special people who commit to low pay, long hours, and
seldom any other perks. One should be fully aware of the situation you are
getting into, you will never make lots of money working in a museum, but you
will get to see art and other objects that others may never see.(and
sometimes you get to travel with art all over the world!)
