Assistant Curator of Education for Adult Programs
Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts – Montgomery, Alabama

Responsibilities:  Planning & directing programs for high school through
senior citizen audiences, teaching advanced placement art history, leading
docent program, organizing lectures, teacher programs, exhibition
interpretation, outreach, assisting with special events, and maintaining
audio visual equipment.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in art history, museum studies, art
education or fine arts; Masters degree and art museum education experience
preferred. Strong writing and speaking skills are a must.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of art history to include
American art history as needed to teach classes, train docents and  inform
visitors about museum exhibitions and programs. Knowledge of art-making
techniques. Ability to conduct sound research on artists’ lives, their works
and related historical events to include techniques, sources, and influences
in order to accurately communicate to adult audiences in writing and orally
the content that lies behind works of art in the Museum. Ability to express
ideas clearly and concisely in writing and speaking. Ability to work with
diverse audiences. Ability to adapt educational material suitable for people
with different learning styles and needs. Ability to operate a Macintosh
computer and to operate and maintain various audio-visual systems and
equipment such as slide, film, video projector, video player, photographic
equipment or ability to learn same as needed to use for educational
programs, education sessions and museum events and programs.

The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, a department of the City of Montgomery,
is a mid-sized Museum in central Alabama. Montgomery is the state capitol
with a population of approximately 225,000. The Education Department is
staffed by three full-time art education professionals, one full-time tour
coordinator and one part-time secretary. The Museum is currently beginning
an addition to its facility to include renovated offices for the education
staff, an orientation theater, two new studio spaces and the doubling of the
current ARTWORKS hands-on participatory gallery, scheduled to open in 2004.

The Museum's collection consists of outstanding American art, decorative
arts in the form of porcelain and glass, significant holdings of Old Master
prints, and works from the Southeastern region. The state-of-the-art Museum
