Dear Beth, you have asked probably the major question of the 21st Century, or
perhaps all centuries. Why are professions we value not valued enough to be
paid well? Merchants, stock brokers, even politicians are better paid than
teachers, museum professionals, mothers and ministers. There seems to be an
inverse curve between the moral/ethical/value intensive work and salaries.

I've been an actor, a dancer, a mother and am now a VOLUNTEER President of
the Board of an emerging historical site and museum (which means I work 24/7
for free). None of the above paid well, and most paid nothing most of the
time. At the same time, I also worked as a model, a stock broker and a
journalist. These paid VERY well and supported my other work, which mattered
more to me. Go figure.

Life is a choice, and you choose the life that matters most to you, and make
it work.
All the best,
Maggie
