AVAILABLE POSITION

DATE:  October 2, 2002

TITLE:  Botanical Exhibition Assistant / Education
  Non-exempt, Grant full-time, 2 year position, 37.5 hour/week

SALARY:   $13.85 an hour.  Wage as stipulated by grant.

Working under the Conservatory Project Manager and Exhibition Developer,
assists in research, exhibition development, and evaluation for the 16,000
square foot Rose Hills Foundation Conservatory for Botanical Science.
Provides background research for exhibition content and materials,
including living plants.  Works as part of a team that includes senior
management of the Huntington, representatives of key in-house departments,
and a variety of outside consultants.  Reports to Conservatory Project
Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Provides in-depth research services for exhibition
project purposes.  Assists in the preparation, production, and distribution
of research summaries.  Updates and maintains computer databases and paper
files for project purposes.  Participates in the development of interactive
exhibits.  Assists in evaluating exhibition prototypes.  Assists in visitor
research, including preparation, collection, recording, or entering data.
Performs basic data analysis.  Assists in the organization and production
of grant reports.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:  Arranges and attends meetings, seminars, symposia and
other events related to project efforts.  Stays informed of developments in
field.  Orders supplies and equipment.  Researches new equipment purchases
and develops recommendations for supervisor's consideration.  Records
meeting notes for review by project manager.  Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge of scholarly research and bibliographic tools
required.  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.  Excellent
writing and oral communications skills required.  Proficient computer
knowledge working with application programs required, such as Word for
Windows, Excel, Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro, electronic mail, etc.
Knowledge of botany or horticulture highly preferred.  Spoken and written
Spanish language skills preferred.  Ability to coordinate meetings and
events, understand and apply policies and procedures, and communicate with
others to gather information preferred.  Experience with scholarly research
required, including gathering, evaluating, and summarizing information in
written and oral formats.  Experience working within a team preferred.
Experience working with living plants helpful.  Experience in museum
education helpful.
