Elizabeth, our executive director was very active in preservation efforts in
our community, but was careful, because of political ramifications, to try
to present his opinions from his personal viewpoint, not as a representative
of the Heritage Center. It's a bit of a minefield because you can alienate
alot of people, and of course he cannot thoroughly disassociate himself from
the Heritage Center. We participate in architectural surveys, and next week
we are hosting an art show and sale that is being held by the local
preservation group, which was successful in getting rid of a major power
plant that was going to develop local farm land. We support many efforts by
this group, and by hosting the art show we can contribute to their good
efforts.
I think that preservation is part and parcel of our mission, even if it is
not included per se.
