Dear List,

My collections manager Bill Griffith came up with an ingenious method
that might be considered. Our metal shelving has holes drilled in the
surfaces at intervals and he placed dowel rods through them at the
front and back creating a "slot" for our metal section framed prints.
The surface has ethafoam for padding. The wood is soft so the surface
of the frames is unlikely to be damaged unless someone was very
careless. For fragile frames the dowels could be cushioned.

Another option is to find an experienced preparator with an
understanding of archival needs and woodworking. Surely a box like
unit could be fashioned for the shelves and the art.
