I bought a rare earth magnet that looked like a little brass doorknob from Lee Valley Tools and I used it for hanging my Christmas wreath (stuffed fabric, weighes 2 or 3 pounds) on my front door (the door being metal). I don't know what load it can bear but I'll check the catalogue
and see if they say.
