Does anyone have policies/procedures on how often they rotate items in and
out from a "permanent exhibit." We have moved objects (photographs,
textiles, paper documents, metals...) from the exhibit to storage for
conservation reasons, but I have not found a consistent schedule for this.
Is this something a conservator would need to advise on or are there some
general guidelines. What do you do if you need to move something out and
have nothing to put in its place? Having exhibit labels printed can be
expensive as well, so the curator has concerns about replacing too many
items.

Any thoughts as to others' policies/procedures on this issue?

Thanks very much.
