I've had experience with both Montel and Viking/Spacesaver
in a couple of installations of compactor shelving here at
the National Museum of the American Indian. We did Montel's
first big museum project three years ago, and have had
Viking and Spacesaver in to do additional work for us. I
take it you're doing open shelving without gasketted doors,
probably in eight foot high compactors, and are trying to
figure out whether to go manual or electric. What size
module are you looking at? What kind of budget have you
got? Is it a new building or a retrofit? Where are you
located? I'll be glad to share my experience with the two
companies with you.

Hello,

I am trying to find out if there are any standards for
mobile (compacting)
shelving system specifications in utilizing them for museum
collections
specifically boxed archaeological material which maybe in
weight similar to
books or boxes of archival material. The specifications I'm
thinking of is in
rail, carriage, and shelving construction.

Also, maybe people could indicate their problems with these
systems or the
things that have been really useful in terms of their
construction.
Discussion of specific systems would also be helpful
(Montel, Spacesaver,
etc).

Thank you for your insight on these matters! Have a grea
day!
