That depends. The current mileage rate for the US government is 36.5 cents/mile
for car, $.28 for motorcycle and $.975 for airplane. (Yes, there are mileage
rates for personal airplanes....)
If you are driving someplace that is 500 miles away, the reembursement for
mileage ONE WAY is $182.50. I'd assume you'd get reembursement for the whole
trip as well which puts the cost at $365. With today's airfare wars and
discount airlines, it's often cheaper to fly, even if you have to stay over a
Friday or Saturday and pay for a hotel. It always pays to do the math.
