Hello List-Fellows,
I suppose this link's news piece could be interesting enough for our forum:
http://www.iwpr.net/index.pl?archive/bcr2/bcr2_20020410_1_eng.txt
In short, sentence in English about notorious war crime gen. R. Mladic says
that "He was recently spotted at church in the Valjevo area", but this is
only a loose (and wrong) translation from the original: "Mestani valjevskog
kraja kazu da su Ratka Mladica vidjali u Muselimovom konaku Narodnog
muzeja" (from IWPR's mailing list's "Izvestaj o balkanskoj krizi, broj
329", still untranslated at their web site), i.e.:
"Inhabitants of Valjevo area [in Serbia] said that they saw Ratko Mladic in
Muselim historic guesthouse of the People's Museum."
If true, I consider this outrageous.
But, it could be interesting to share some experiences about such misuses
of museal facilities. Maybe a perception of safe haven of cultural (close
to religious) facilities could be traced?
Bad food for interesting thoughts. Sincerely,
Jadran Kale, curator ethnologist
