The South Carolina State Park Service seeks applications for Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site Interpreter position. Redcliffe Plantation is a 369-acre historic property located near Aiken, South Carolina. The centerpiece of the site is a furnished 1859 Greek-Revival mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, operated daily as a historic house museum. Forthcoming interpretive exhibits for the site's two slave quarters are currently in the planning stage.
Job Purpose:
Plans thematic interpretive services focusing on the Hammond family, plantation life, African Americans, architecture, and decorative arts, at this state-owned historic house museum. Conducts tours, programs, workshops, field trips and activities for the park visitor through personal contact, oral and written communication. Promotes the park, the park system and the state. Performs curatorial duties including object care, registration, housekeeping, and research. Also assists with preservation of historic structures and landscapes as needed.
Qualifications: A Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree and two years experience in Interpretation, Public History, or the Museum Field. Minimum salary is $21,679. (On-site three bedroom newly constructed house provided).
