Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo
JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
$18.21 - $22.76/hour
This is a half time, non-benefited Position

Under the supervision of the Director of the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo,
implements the development plan for the Junior Museum and Zoo including
grant development, donor development, membership program, special events and
annual campaign.

Job Duties:

*       Identifies, contacts and seeks funding from local and national
foundations for programs, exhibitions and the zoo
*
*       Identifies, contacts and seeks funding from local corporations for
programs, exhibitions and the zoo
*
*       Supports board members of the Friends of the Junior Museum and Zoo
in soliciting funds from private donors
*
*       Implements and oversees fundraising events for the Junior Museum and
Zoo
*
*       Oversees membership program
*
*       Develops annual campaign
*
*       Provides the infrastructure for a capital campaign
*
*       Job Requirements:
*
*       Prior experience in fund development preferably in the field of
education
*
*       Ability to write clearly and to verbally articulate the goals of the
Junior Museum and Zoo
*
*       Knowledge of local funding agencies including foundations and
corporations
*
*       Ability to function with little administrative support

The Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo is a 65-year-old institution owned and
operated by the City of Palo Alto within the Department of Community
Services. Currently, we develop a yearly thematic exhibition, we house 50
exotic and native animals in a garden setting and we provide science-based
classes, outreach programs and summer camps. In addition to basic
operational funds provided by the city, the museum and zoo rely on community
contributions primarily solicited by the Friends of the Junior Museum and
Zoo
(a private non-profit 501C3).

Mission Statement:

We seek to increase children's critical thinking skills and to help them to
develop their intuition so that they can more readily establish their own
place in the universe, with the power to question, create and contribute to
the betterment of the world.
