A subject has come up recently at our museum and I was wondering what
opinions fellow listers might have about it.

When the museum was built, a large window between the collections work room
and the exhibit gallery was constructed, with the intention that museum
visitors would be able to "watch the curators at work." We primarily use the
room for cataloguing projects and, unfortunately, storage of items that are
being processed (accessioning, deaccessioning, waiting for approval, etc.).
We do not do any in-house conservation or cleaning at the present time.

Also to be considered is the fact that the placement of the window in the
gallery is now in our "changing gallery" where we certainly can't fit it
into those changing storylines. Right now, there is a temporary wall
covering it.

Some people like the idea of having the window a lot. Others worry about the
appropriateness of what visitors will actually be seeing when they do look
through the window.

Any feedback, on or off-list, will be most appreciated.
