Hi Adriaan,

At public schools in NSW, Australia, history is not
compulsory past year 7, however primary school
(elementary school) features it strongly.

Private schools often (though not always) pay the
subject of history more attention.

However, regardless of history classes, museum, zoo,
etc. attendance by Aussie kids is quite high within
school parameters.
