It is difficult to compare, as educational systems seem to be so much
different from one country to another. In Belgium the educational standards
are also decided by the states (we now are a federal state).
In Flanders (the Dutch speaking part, c. 60% of Belgian population)
students have 1 or 2 hours a week for 6 years - this means 32 or 64
hours/year x 6 years = a total of 192 or 384 hours. Most of history is
taught chronologically, including Belgian, European and World History - the
6th year (when students are c. 18 years old) is generally devoted to the
history 1945-today. History courses include for example the history of the
US of A, the Soviet Union, colonialism and decolonialism, etc.
Compulsary atttendance at school is until 18 years for everybody

How many weeks is "for one period" ? What do you mean by "Freshman year",
"Sophomore year" and "Junior year" - on the European continent we are not
familiar with these terms ?
