I too work at an historic house museum where I am THE employee.  My official title is Executive Director, but I also curate exhibit, work in collections management and create education programming (as the museum's educator.)  You can do it, but you have to wear alot of hats, be flexible, list your priorities, plan your days--and do the best you can with what you are given to work with.
