Hello Katherine!
I can only provide a personal opinion as a museum staffer
and frequent museum visitor rather than as someone involved
in curatorial or collections work. My apologies if I step
on any toes . . .
I would be terribly shocked to walk by such a window. I
would, naturally, be interested in the tasks performed
therein; however, I would feel uncomfortable seeing museum
staff on display like animals in the zoo. These are
professionals. They ought to have some control over their
work environment . . . whether they choose peace and quiet
or No Doubt's latest CD blaring on the stereo. <Grin>. But
to have dozens or hundreds or thousands of visitors
shuffling by, coughing and sneezing and clearing their
throats, banging on the glass, etc. Hardly conducive to top
quality work.
Also, will there be windows on the director's office? The
business office? The maintenance or protection offices?
Even if the general public asks for such windows to be
installed so they can see what a museum director does? Not
likely! LOL!
Perhaps offer a 'behind the scenes' tour instead -- on a
weekly or monthly basis depending upon staffing or volunteer
schedules? That way, visitors can see what goes on behind
those closed doors. Perhaps each curator can take a turn
giving a brief greeting, as surely a 2 minute greeting is
less disruptive to their day than having dozens of eyes
ogling them as they try to concentrate on getting their work
done.
Just my two cents . . .
